Question: Which was the main motivation you had in order to begin your research in the UFO field?

Answer: I am a scientist who is curious. I was a nuclear physicist working on radiation shielding for nuclear airplanes for General Electric in 1958. I was ordering books from a mail order company and needed one more to save shipping costs. There was Captain Edward Ruppelt's book “The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects” marked down from $ 2.95 to 1.00. I ordered it, read it and was intrigued, but not convinced. If some UFOs were nuclear powered space ships, it would both be exciting and help get even more support for our program. I moved to California, read 15 more books, some of which were trash. Then I found the biggest official study ever done “Project Blue Book Special Report 14” at the U. of California, Berkeley, which had all kinds of data on 3.201 sightings. It also included a totally misleading statement by the Secretary of the Air Force. I was acustomed to evasion when dealing with classified matters but not outright lying.

I joined APRO and NICAP and decided to get more publicly involved after reading Frank Edwards’ best selling book “Flying Saucers Serious Business” after making several visits to Project Blue Book. Frank gave me some tips on people to contact and I did my first radio show in Pittsburgh when working for Westinghouse Astronuclear Lab. on nuclear rockets. That led to my first lecture, in a technicains’ living room, and more and more in the community and finally many lectures to professional engineering and scientific societies such as Engineering societies of Detroit, Baltimore, and Cincinnati, sections of the American Nuclear Society and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a number of colleges and universities. It was the enthusiastic response of my professional colleagues and the collapse of the advanced nuclear and space business which led me to go full time on Lecturing and writing about flying saucers. I have now spoken to well over 600 colleges (usually “Flying Saucers ARE Real!”) and over 100 professional groups in all 50 US states, 9 Canadian Provinces and 14 other countries. I have published more than 80 UFO papers, several videos and co-authored “Crash at Corona” with Don Berliner. I am the original civilian investigator of the Roswell Incident. I am the sole author of TOP SECRET/MAJIC.

Question: You have had a successful career as a scientist. You have worked for General Electric, Westing-House, General Motors and other propulsion system factories. However, you dedicated a big part of your life to investigate the UFO phenomenon. How has been your personal experience with the scientific community during and after your transition to your first UFO studies?

Answer: The response from professional groups to which I have spoken has been uniformly enthusiastic judging by both the size of the audiences and the question and answer sessions which always follow my program. I have had only 11 hecklers (2 were drunk) in over 700 lectures. Of course the total skeptics won’t attend my programs.

Question: On June 24 of 1947, from his plane, Kenneth Arnold sighted a group of nine UFOs flying over the Cascade Mountains (Washington State). Most of people agree that Arnold effectively saw something unusual that day; some think they were UFOs, but others believe to identify them as prototypes or “flying wings” due to the development of the supposed “Nazi UFOs”, among many other exotic explanations. In your opinion: exactly what did Arnold see?

Answer: I believe he saw 9 alien spacecraft. None of the other explanations stand up to careful scrutiny. There was no group of flying wings able to fly at that time and their top speed was only 520 mph for the jet version of the Northrop Flying Wing whose first flight was not until October 1947. Debunkers do their research by proclamation rather than investigation. Dr. Bruce Maccabee has studied the evidence very carefully as an optical physicist. No conventional explanation fits the data.

Question: You wrote the book “Crash at Corona”, which was an UFO-bestseller in the USA and it is referred by experts as “the definitive book about Roswell”. Just at that time, you had studied the case over more than 10 years, researching “in situ”, recovering top secret files from public and private sources, interviewing more than a hundred witnesses, etc.

In the Roswell case there are various debunking theories that try to deny the possibility of an extraterrestrial event. Being your opinion one of the more qualified ones, what do you think about those theories?

Answer: None of them can withstand rigorous investigation. Mogul balloons were not flown at the right time or place and their characteristics don’t match those described by first hand witnesses. Crash test dummies were not dropped until at least 6 years after the events. If they were secret American test systems, where were the chase planes and chase crews to recover the secret technology? I have a review of the latest explanation, deformed Japanese in a Horton Brothers Flying Wing hung from a big balloon, at my website www.stantonfriedman.com. It simply doesn’t fit the facts.

Question: Many people think that in the Roswell case we are only talking about one crashed UFO. But according to some sources, there were actually two incidents, one in Corona and other in San Agustin. Were there two UFOs involved? If it was like that, is it a mistake to join both incidents into one called Roswell?

Answer: As is described in “Crash at Corona”, there were indeed two crashed saucers... on the Foster Ranch north of Roswell and in the Plains of San Agustin. Witness testimony indicates they occurred at about the same time, so might well have been related such as in a midair collision caused by strong lightning influencing the guidance or propulsion systems.

Question: Is there any sign or evidence showing what caused the UFO accidents in the Roswell Case?

Answer: We have no real proof, but lightning is certainly one possibility. They get some tremendous storms in that area.

Question: About the UFO crew, according to testimonies from witnesses, they would correspond to the aliens from the “gray” type, the same usually described by the UFO abduction victims. In addition, there are also documents (Aquarius) and even a video showing one of these beings, called EBE wich presumably survived one of the UFO crashes. What is your opinion about this stuff?

Answer: I have no good reason to accept the Aquarius documents or the video as being genuine. At best in my “gray basket”.

Answer: Yes. It is gray basket. Not Black and not white... gray. We don’t have enough data on which to base a conclusion. People want me to say yes or no. Sometimes I have to say: I don’t know it is in my “gray basket”. Sorry for using a special term made up by me years ago, but now sometimes used by my colleagues.

Question: The Majestic documents supposedly evidence activities of handling extraterrestrial tecnology by a secret government agency called Majestic 12 or MJ-12. How many and which of these documents are genuine? Why?

Answer: I am strongly convinced that the Eisenhower Briefing Document, the Truman-Forrestal Memo, the Cutler-Twining memo, and likely the SOM 1.01 document are genuine. I have two fairly recent articles on the latest developments on my website at www.stantonfriedman.com. In addition a new edition of my book TOP SECRET/MAJIC will be published in September which has a new chapter reviewing many attacks. There are also a number of phony documents that have been passed to Tim Cooper which I have shown to be fraudulent. I have visited 20 different government document archives, had a securirty clearance myself, talked to families of the MJ-12 members and spent an enormous amount of effort in contrast to the armchair theorists who calmly claim they are all frauds.

Question: Is the USA the only nation that has recovered extraterrestrial technology? Could any advances of our modern technology and science be due to these peculiar discoveries (Roswell crash)?

Answer: I have no idea what other nations have recovered. I believe Brazil recovered a craft and beings near Varginha several years ago. I talked to several investigators in Brazil.

Question: Is there a government conspiracy to hide, distort and ridiculize the UFO topic? Which would be the main reasons for this?

Answer: There is overwhelming evidence that the US and other governments have been involved in a Cosmic Watergate. They have indeed lied, distorted, misrepresented the facts about flying saucers. My newest paper is “Government UFO Lies” which will be presented at the International Mutual UFO Network Symposium in July in Denver and will be included in the proceedings of the Symposium.

I normally provide 6 good reasons for all governments to want to cover up the facts about flying saucers:

Question: Have you had personal experiences, more specifically threats, that would confirm the UFO conspiracy?

Answer: I have had no experiences of being threatened, etc. I am very public. The conspiracy is evidenced by the blacked out and whited out government UFO documents released under Freedom of Information by the CIA, NSA and other agencies. I may be doing exactly what the government wants i.e. softening up the public for when the big announcement finally gets made that we are not alone.

Question: Talking about spanish speaking Ufology, there is a “noted” (at least many people think so) school of apparently serious UFO researchers in Spain, grouped mainly around the “Anomalia Foundation”. It appears that they had reached the conclussion that there are no evidences of extraterrestrial visits to Earth. On the other hand, many American UFO researchers have provided a lot of facts that aim directly at the real existence of alien visits to the Earth.

In your opinion, what is going on with the UFO research in others countries of the world? Why are the USA cases the most spread ones?

Answer: There are a lot more Americans than those from any other country except China and India.The UFO debunkers simply haven’t studied the data. I discuss 5 large scale scientific studies at the beginning of my lecture. Fewer than 2% have read any of them. Debunkers use 4 major tactics:

Question: Which ones are the specific points (of the UFO research) on which most of the experienced researchers are not able to come to an agreement? Why?

Answer: I haven’t taken a poll. We probably don’t have a uniform view on the motivation of the aliens or the governments, on how much information has been hidden, on how to travel to the stars (There are no good objections to star travel), on why some people are unwilling to look at the evidence, etc.

Question: What effect would take place in our society if people found out officially that we have been and are still currently visited by aliens?

Answer: I believe there would be a huge variety of responses depending partly on how the information is presented. Are the aliens here to destroy us (War of the Worlds) or to quarantine us or??? Many religions accept the notion of alien life... others do not and would preach against the aliens. The response from my audiences indicates to me that most people could handle the idea since the polls have consistently shown that the better educated the more likely to accept UFO reality and the notion of government coverups.

Question: Is there any clue that could tell us from where and to what do the aliens come?

Answer: The star map work done by Marjorie Fish with regard to the Betty and Barney Hill Abduction case, clearly points to the base stars as Zeta 1 Reticuli and Zeta 2 Reticuli in the Southern Sky constellation of Reticulum. They are both sun-like stars, are only 39 light years from the sun, and one eighth of a light years apart from each other. From a planet around one, the other star is a hundred times bright than Venus is to us. They are also a billion years older than the sun and would certainly have had plenty of time to develop more advanced technology than have we and a greater incentive for interstellar travel since they could directly observe planets around the other star and are more than 30 times closer to each other than the sun is to the next star over. Much of this is discussed in the beautiful 32 page full color booklet “The Zeta Reticuli Incident” published by Astronomy Magazine and of which I still have some copies. Question: It has been an honor to have this interview Mr. Friedman. Lastly, would you like to send a message for the young scientists and researchers that, in the same way you did it when you were young, are today interested in researching the UFO phenomenon?

Answer: It is time that we recognized that man is not alone, nor is he the most advanced species in the neighborhood. We should begin thinking of ourselves as Earthlings. We no longer can afford the luxury of being, as we have been, a primitive society whose major activity is tribal welfare. If we live in democracies, do we really want governments to make decisions as to how we respond to aliens without input from us? Though I am a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, I consider myself an Earthling. So should you.
